Whatever You Think, Think The Opposite
By Paul Arden
Author of the World’s Bestselling Book:
It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want To Be.
~ The nature of the content & Insights
~ What you can get out of the book
- Controversy of our thoughts
- How thinking the opposite at times can be helpful too
My personal take on this book:
This is another great book that I have as a birthday present (“,)
Thank you dearest!
Zooming right back to the content of the book. Simply AWESOME!
The messages are short and to the point. It makes one think.
This book strikes the same sentiment that I have while reading
Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking By Malcolm Gladwell, which will be the next book review.
Whatever You Think, Think the Opposite pushes me hard to think the opposite because it is out of the norm. The way of thinking that seldom or never cross my mind.
This book brings the messages across with graphics, pictures and even mini prop (within the book of course)!
I finish reading this book within the span of 25 minutes and I have a big “AHA”
Let me quote a portion of what the inner jacket reads:
“Whatever You Think, Think The Opposite will force a rupture in whatever it is you used to think- even if you didn’t know you thought it. And it will give you the confidence to take bigger risks and enjoy your work more than you can imagine.”
With that let me share with you
3 Specific Thoughts that has created an immense impact on me. (There are more than 50 ideas/thoughts that you can find in this book) It’s for you to find out =)
Before I share with you the 3 specific thoughts, I would like to quote another portion of the inner jacket:
This book explains the
benefits of making bad
decisions.
--------------------------------
It shows how risk is
your security in life.
-------------------------------
And why unreason is
Better than reason.
------------------------------
It’s about having the
Confidence to roll the dice.
-------------------------------What a great introduction to a wonderful book of insightful thoughts.
When you are ready to learn, let’s go…
Thought 1: I WISHThe book’s definition of I wish means: wouldn’t it be nice if…
And it elaborated: If you always make the right decision, the safe decision, the one most people make, you will be the same as everyone else.
What a concise statement! Haven’t we always make decision based on the norm, following the crowd, the mainstream?
Thought 2: I WANTAnd the book’s definition is: if I want it enough I will get it.
And the elaboration was Wow!
Getting what you want means making the decisions you need to make to get what you want.
Not the decisions those around you think you should make.
Making the safe decision is dull, predictable and leads nowhere new.
The unsafe decision causes you to think and respond in a way you hadn’t thought of.
And that thought will lead to other thoughts which will help you achieve what you want.
Start taking bad decisions and it will take you to a place where others only dream to be.
This I feel is a very strong support for people out there who dare to step out of their comfort zone and make a difference in their lives and in turn ignite positive change in others.
Like what Mr. Jerome Tan from Executive Directions, a mentor of mine quotes:
“ Millionaires do what non-millionaires do not do.”Thought 3: It’s Better To Regret What You Have Done Than What You Haven’t
Let me quote from this wonderful book, “No one is going to cut off your right arm, take away your motorbike or put you in jail if you don’t succeed.”
And let me add, of course doing these morally, ethically and legally!
I have presented to you the 3 thoughts to you and I sincerely hope for this sharing to ignite some positive changes within you, within your mind specifically.
I couldn’t resist this temptation to share with you this following thought/idea which I consider a common sense that is not so common.
Please put on your thinking cap:
“Do It, Then Fix It As You Go.”
I am a culprit of this statement once too. I always thought I have to seek perfection before I can actually do anything successfully but that was gravely wrong. I realized that nobody is perfect at anything, they merely fine tune what they do and be proficient in it.
With that, I shall conclude this review (“,)
